Micro Synthetic Fiber Reinforcement
Effective Crack Control in Fresh Concrete
Micro synthetic fibers are fine polypropylene filaments commonly produced in lengths of 6–19 mm. Added to concrete at low dosage, they create a uniform network of millions of fibers throughout the mix. Their primary role is to support the control of plastic shrinkage cracking before concrete develops sufficient strength.
With the correct dosage and adequate mixing time, microfibers can help reduce bleeding and segregation, maintain mix integrity and improve surface consistency. They are suitable for screeds, thin concrete, industrial floors, external yards, shotcrete, precast elements and specialized applications requiring enhanced fire performance.
Understanding the Technical Limits
Micro synthetic fiber is not structural reinforcement. It does not replace steel mesh or primary load-bearing reinforcement and does not independently provide slab load capacity. Projects requiring structural performance should consider macro synthetic fibers or the reinforcement system specified by the project engineer.
